Outreach OpportuntiesARE YOU LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PLUG IN?Here is the place!Do you like to work with children? Here are a few places that you can make a difference in children's lives, either directly or in supporting programs that help children:
Kids in Distress Services, Inc. (KIDS) is a non-profit organization with tax-exempt status whose sole mission is to help children and teens. They provide children and teens with necessary clothing and personal hygiene items when they are unexpectedly removed from their homes (i.e. entering foster care, entering a shelter, left homeless, home fires), as well as any child/teen in need.
Monetary donations and donations of clean, gently used clothing items are accepted. Your contributions are tax deductible. Please contact KIDS for days and times that their donation area is open.
KIDS can also use help with sorting and hanging clothes, washing and sorting donated toys, home furnishings, car seats, etc., as well as janitorial help to keep the center clean.
Any amount of time is appreciated, even one hour a week.
"Lunch Buddies" is a luchtime role model program that connects an adult community member with a first through fifth grade student. The purpose of the program is to provide the student with a positive adult role model.
Do you have 40 to 60 minutes a week to spend with a child during their lunch time as well as time to play with them at recess or a board game? The Lunch Buddy Program is looking for people that want to interact with children that need a structured time with adults.
Contact Gerry McMillian at 810-765-3515 for Eddy Elementary and Belle River Elementary, or Donna Galbraith at 810-676-1380 for Palms Elementary School (East China Schools).
The program is also available at Algonac School district. You can call Algonac Elementary at 810-794-4991 and speak with Mrs. Hanners.
There are several food pantries in our area that are looking for help as well as donations.
All of these places are looking for help, donations and prayers for those in need.
